Tanzania: Scores dead as Plane Crashes into Lake

On Sunday, a Precision Air Aircraft carrying passengers from Dar es Salaam to the town of Bukoba crashed into the popular Lake Victoria, and took the lives of some of those onboard.

This was confirmed in a statement issued shortly after the crash which had been blamed on bad weather by Precision Air, Tanzania’s largest privately-owned airline.

“Precision Air regrets to confirm that 19 fatalities and 24 survivors have now been reported by the emergency services at the scene of the accident involving PW-494 which crashed at Lake Victoria in Bukoba today,” the airline said.

This was also corroborated by the country’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa who told reporters: “All Tanzanians join you in mourning these 19 people who have lost their lives.

However, the airline authorities have announced that the names of those affected in the crash will not be released until their next-of-kins have been notified.
