Indian drugmaker company Zydus Cadila is all set to introduce World’ first DNA-based Covid-19 vaccine very soon, which is only one vaccine for children approved in India for covid-19.

Trials are going on for quality checks of ZyCoV-D vaccine at the vaccine testing laboratory in Himachal Pradesh. Chairman of the Centre’s Covid working group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), NK Arora said that “Vaccine will be introduced in the immunization program in two weeks if everything goes smoothly as per plan.”

Zydus Cadila drugmaker company based in Ahmedabad has received a nod for emergency use authorisation (EUA) for three-dose needle-free ZyCoV-D vaccine for being administered to people aged 12 years and above.

Company has proposed price of vaccine to be at Rs 1,900 according to sources. Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan had said that this three-dose vaccine will be priced differently than the other indigenously developed Covaxine and Covishield as, apart from being three-dose vaccine, there is DNA based needle free jet injector used those costs around Rs 30,000.

However, Government is negotiating with the firm to bring down the rates and to reconsider all the aspects of the vaccine. So far, around three rounds of meetings held between centre and company in this matter.
