Diabetes also called as diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition that cause high blood glucose also called as high blood sugar in the body. Glucose is a vital nutrient that provides the “fuel” or energy to organs for properly function.

There are two types of Diabetes:

1. Type 1 Diabetes: This type of Diabetes is an autoimmune disease where insulin-producing cells in your pancreas get destroyed. Up to 10% of people suffer from Type1 Diabetes. It is also called as insulin-dependent diabetes as people diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes have to take insulin every day.

2. Type 2 Diabetes: This is a condition when your body doesn’t produce enough insulin or body’s cells don’t respond normally to the insulin. This is a most common type of Diabetes. 95% of People diagnosed with Diabetes have Type2 Diabetes. Recently Drug manufacturing company Glenmark became the first country to launch fix dose combination drug for Type 2 Diabetes in India.

3. Pre-diabetes: This is a stage when your blood sugar is higher than normal.

4. Gestational Diabetes: This condition occurs during pregnancy when body witness high blood sugar.

Other less common type of Diabetes includes Drug or chemical-induced diabetes, Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and Monogenic diabetes syndromes.

Common Symptoms of Diabetes:

  • weight loss
  • increased hunger
  • increased thirst
  • extreme fatigue
  • blurry vision
  • frequent urination
  • slow healing sores
  • Dry mouth

Different causes and symptoms are associated with different types of Diabetes. Find out which symptoms you are facing with and consult with your doctor as early as possible for proper diagnosis and treatment. In some cases, dietary changes and exercise may be enough to control the diseases.
